FlixBus links Midwest, Ontario networks with new Toronto-Detroit route

New cross-border service will provide connections to Hamilton, London, Windsor and more 

New York, NY. (March 2, 2023). FlixBus, North America's fastest-growing intercity bus service, is adding its newest cross-border route between the U.S. and Canada on March 2, 2022 with the debut of a new line between Toronto-Detroit with stops in Scarborough, Hamilton, London, Chatham-Kent and Windsor.  

FlixBus launched its Ontario network in April 2022 and cross-border service between the U.S. and Canada in May 2022 between New York City-Toronto and Seattle-Vancouver. Since then, the company has made a series of improvements and service expansions in the province, including an expansion to Windsor in August 2022, moving its central hub to Toronto Union Station in October 2022 and adding a direct airport connection from Kitchener to Toronto Pearson International Airport in January 2023.  

This new line between Detroit and Toronto will run 5 days per week (excluding Mondays and Tuesdays) and will provide a much-needed expansion to the province’s cross-border service and a compelling new option for American travelers looking to explore the best Ontario has to offer.

FlixBus’ Toronto-Detroit route will be run by Toronto-based Skyway Coach Lines, who trusts in FlixBus' technological expertise in pricing, marketing and sales, route intelligence, quality management and continuous product expansion. The buses will also apply the company's international standard, which includes services such as free on-board Wi-Fi.   

Save money and carbon emissions with intercity buses 

In addition to providing convenient, affordable bus service throughout the United States and Canada, FlixBus riders can reduce their environmental impact through optional carbon offset credits:  

  • FlixBus has collaborated with atmosfair to offer customers the option to travel climate friendly on their FlixBus journey. Customers can purchase “CO2 Compensation” tickets during booking, thereby making a voluntary environmental contribution.  

  • The optional cost of traveling green will be added to customers' ticket prices, approximately 1-3% of the original ticket price. 

  • 75% of climate contribution donations in the United States and Canada are invested in atmosfair’s UN-accredited Gold Standard Climate Protection Project Cleaner Cook Stoves in Rwanda. 

  • The remaining 25% flows into the “Future of Mobility Fund”, set up together by Flix and atmosfair, to drive sustainable mobility and decarbonization in the cities and communities where we operate. These donations help to take emerging carbon-neutral technologies out of the lab and onto the road for real impact.
