Flix North America Reports Strong Holiday Travel Season as Intercity Bus Travel Gains Momentum

+++ 7.5% increase in ridership during the 2024 winter holidays highlights growing demand for affordable and reliable travel options
+++ On-time performance (OTP) for FlixBus and Greyhound surpasses major U.S. airlines
DALLAS, February 20, 2025 – More travelers across the U.S. and Canada chose intercity buses during the 2024 winter holiday season, reinforcing their growing recognition as a cost-effective and reliable travel option. Flix North America, parent company of FlixBus and Greyhound and the continent’s largest intercity bus provider, today reported a 7.5% year-over-year increase in holiday ridership, driven by heightened consumer interest in buses for family visits, vacations, and last-minute getaways.
“This holiday season showed just how essential intercity buses are for keeping people connected,” said Kai Boysan, CEO of Flix North America. “As travelers faced rising airfare, airport disruptions, and other travel challenges, they increasingly turned to FlixBus and Greyhound for a dependable and affordable way to reach their destinations. This demand underscores the critical role of intercity buses in the broader transportation landscape. Our continued investment in technology and service innovation is making intercity buses a more attractive choice for long-distance travelers.”
Holiday Travel Trends Reflect Broader Growth in Intercity Bus Travel
The rise in holiday ridership aligns with a broader trend of growing demand for buses as more passengers recognize their affordability, convenience, and sustainability. Key corridors across North America, including major city-to-city and leisure routes, saw significant ridership increases during peak holiday periods.
Despite high travel demand, FlixBus and Greyhound posted strong on-time performance (OTP) rates during the 2024 holiday season at 82% and 79.8% respectively, outpacing most major U.S. airlines and underscoring our services’ reliability even amid winter disruptions.
Expanding Access to Affordable Travel in 2025
The increase in holiday ridership highlights the growing role of intercity buses in expanding travel access across the U.S. and Canada. As economic pressures and changing consumer behaviors persist into 2025, buses remain a practical alternative to costly flights and congested highways.
“With nearly 40% of people in the U.S. lacking access to reliable transportation, there is a tremendous opportunity to expand service and improve connectivity,” Boysan said. “Flix North America is committed to collaborating with local and regional partners to enhance transit options, increase intermodal connections, and make bus travel even more accessible.”
As more travelers prioritize affordability, flexibility, and sustainability, intercity buses will continue to play a critical role in connecting cities, small towns, and major destinations across North America.
