FlixBus Launches Route Connecting University of Alberta’s Edmonton and Camrose Campuses
+++ New route expands service with affordable and convenient travel for over 50,000 students and local residents
DALLAS, September 26, 2024 — Flix North America Inc., the parent company of FlixBus and Greyhound, in partnership with the University of Alberta Students’ Union (UASU) and the University of Alberta (U of A), today announced the launch of a new FlixBus route connecting Edmonton and Camrose. This initiative is supported by contributions from the City of Camrose and the Augustana Students’ Association. The route includes stops at both the University of Alberta’s Edmonton North Campus and Augustana Campus in Camrose. As part of a six-week pilot program running from September 27 to November 6, 2024, the new service is designed to meet the growing demand for affordable and accessible transportation options for both students and local residents throughout the region.
Connecting more than 50,000 University of Alberta students between two key campuses, this new route also addresses a crucial transportation gap in the broader community between Edmonton and Camrose—an area long underserved by major transportation providers. Currently, 68% of University of Alberta students rely on public transportation for commuting between campuses and home, making this route a vital service for the university community and beyond.
“At Flix, we’re committed to connecting university communities with affordable, convenient, and sustainable transportation options,” said Karina Frayter, head of communications at Flix North America. “This new route not only makes it easier for students to commute between campuses but also provides reliable intercity travel for the wider Edmonton and Camrose communities. FlixBus’s presence in Canada is rapidly growing, and we’re excited to expand our services to meet the needs of even more travelers.”
Stops on the new route include:
Downtown Edmonton
University of Alberta – Edmonton North Campus
Edmonton – Southgate Transit Centre
Camrose – Duggan Mall
University of Alberta – Camrose Augustana Campus
Additionally, the service provides convenient transfer options to Flix’s existing Edmonton-Calgary-Lethbridge line, giving travelers even more connectivity options across Alberta. This region will now have access to Flix North America’s extensive network of over 1,800 destinations across the U.S., Canada, and Mexico.
Plans are already underway to expand the service beyond the pilot period.
“The launch of this new service is a big step forward for our students, faculty, and the whole university community,” said Renson Alva, Vice President Student Life at the UASU. “It’s not just about getting around—it’s about making it easier to move between campuses in a way that’s both affordable and sustainable. Our goal is for this service to help connect students and make our campuses and the surrounding communities more accessible.”
Tickets are available now at flixbus.com and via the FlixBus app.
